Going Cuckoo in the Pool House

A good day in the Pool House getting the stop-motion sequences for “Cuckoo” shot.  Jon Oz, our model maker and animator (www.ozstudio.co.nz) arrived with our lead ‘actor’ and together with Duncan Cole (cinematographer - www.duncancole.com) we got down to business and trashed the office turning into a studio for the day.

We shot on the VaricamLT to keep the same look as the live action and used Dragonframe software (www.dragonframe.com) to check how the shots were shaping up.  It’s the only way to animate and it gives you a bunch of tools that allow you to check playback, re-align the shot if something gets bumped etc.  Their website also has lots of links to amazing animation, super inspiring.

Everything we shot was on the Leica 100mm macro and lit with a 1x1 Timpani panel.

One thing that everyone that gives up their time and energy to work this is that they love the script written by Kristi Barnett https://kristibarnett.wixsite.com/screenwriter    It’s a long process, longer than I’d expected and I’m really happy that the script still brings people onboard.

Feels good to be getting close to getting the short finished and can’t wait to get it out there and onto the next project!

Animator Jon Oz about to makes some stop motion magic.

Careful there Dunc.

Ready for action.
